Leif Henrikson, Mogens Rasmusen – viola da gamba

Saint Colombe
Concerts a deux violes esgales

FROM THE COLLECTIONS of Sainte Colombe, the French 17th century composer, Leif Henriksson and Mogens Rasmussen perform nine conserts for two viola da gamba. The music of Sainte Colombe is intense, dramatic and beautiful. It embraces both a contemplative and passionate state of mind. Often mentioned together with his pupil Marin Marais, Sainte Colombe should be regarded as the forerunner. With two exceptions, the 67 Concerts a deux violes esgales are his only preserved works and these were discovered as late as 1966.
